Connecting allies, advocates, activists, and accomplices for greater access.

A person using an all-terrain mobility device travels along a coastal trail with two companions, with native grasses, coastal hills, and the Pacific Ocean in the distance.

Outdoor Mobility for Everyone

Many outdoor destinations remain inaccessible to people who cannot travel over sand, gravel, steep grades, or uneven terrain using conventional mobility devices.

ACT is exploring all-terrain mobility equipment and community-based lending or experience programs. The goal is to understand the available technologies, compare operating models, identify funding opportunities, and determine what could work in Santa Barbara County.

What we are researching

  • Different all-terrain mobility vehicles and their capabilities
  • Successful nonprofit, parks, and recreation program models
  • Demonstration, trial, rental, partnership, and sponsorship possibilities
  • Grants and other funding sources for accessible outdoor recreation

We’re looking for

  • Parks and recreation professionals interested in pushing the boundaries of accessibility
  • Outdoor-access and adaptive-recreation organizations
  • Equipment manufacturers and dealers
  • Nonprofit partners, grant researchers, and prospective sponsors
  • Ideas for possible demonstration locations

Current stage: Researching equipment, manufacturers, costs, program models, grants, and potential nonprofit partners. This is an information-gathering effort, not a commitment to a particular product or program.

References to products, organizations, or possible collaborators do not imply endorsement, sponsorship, or an established partnership unless expressly stated.
